My kids are all grown and I miss telling them bedtime stories. Here is one of my boy's favorite tales. I am not sure if it was really their favorite, or the only one I can remember. Either way they heard it a lot and I am sure they will be telling it to their kids some day. I love these nursery tales that have a moral theme, and a lesson of principle that is metaphorically presented in such a wonderful way. They just don't write them
like this anymore.

The Tale of the Snake and the Fox
Once upon a time a snake came up to a fox and said,
"It seems to me we have met."
"I too, "said the Fox, "it seems to me that we have met somewhere before."
"Then give me some money."
"A Fox doesn't give money," replied the tricky animal and in order to escape, he jumped into
a riven of chicken honey and strawberries.

But the snake was quicker and with a well chosen blow of the fist he struck the Fox in the middle of the forehead, which broke into a thousand pieces as he cried,
"NO, NO, a thousand times No. I'm not your daughter".

Now good night and sleep well, my little kiddies.

Apologies to Eugene and his Soprano, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Fireman and "genera of the absurd."

As it always is,
Jay

My Bad
I left out a very important paragraph from the chapter of my novel yesterday. It must have sounded very disjointed. Sorry.

Insert the paragraph below after the word "Jack" in the version I published yesterday and it will make more sense. It was just a typo, you know how those things happen.

As was I,
Jay

It is so good to be out of the treatment center. I am doing much better now.  I only wake up screaming three or four times a night now.  I feel much more rested and the headaches are really not a bother. I sure do miss the happy pills the Nurse would give me.  They would make my brain twinkle and all my colors reverse, and I could sing like Brian Wilson.

They have lots of rules at the Center. One rule was no writing.  I found that very hard to comply with.  After hours when no one was in the office I would sneak in.  I told them I was getting more paper to draw on, but actually I was typing on  the Typewriter.  I started a novel that I think is pretty good.  Here is a sample chapter below.

As I was,

This is a picture taken at 7:07 AM Saturday, Nov. 8th in the Commons area of the New Beginnings Reality Center. The pictures were stuck to the wall with Elmer's Glue and Juicy Fruit
gum. The DNA is being extracted from the gum to determine a suspect, although it is
assumed that patient #71169 is responsible. The staff is trying to determine if it was an act of extreme vandalism or an example of extreme art.

Note to Staff:
Mr. Johnson is beginning to depress the other patients.

Mr. Johnson is responding well to treatment.  We may be able to release him soon on a work release program.

Since he likes to draw I decided to give him a drawing  assignment. I asked him to draw his room. It is actually a very good likeness of the modern accommodations here at the center.

Meanwhile, Back at the
New Beginnings Reality Center,
Jay Johnson is still incarcerated. Dr. Stethenmetz has refused to release him until he can show that he has a job waiting for him on the outside. So far no one has come forward with employment as a condition for his release. However, Mr. Johnson has continued to express himself in graphic form and we will continue to publish his pictures as an insight into the uphill battle that Dr. Stethenmetz faces in his rehabilitation efforts.

Enough said for today's blog.

Mr. Johnson seems to be on a roll with his sketches. Today there was this one,
I think it is entitled, "Eye on the Election".
Make sure you vote.

Evidently Mr. Johnson is still expressing himself through pictures. We found this sketch drawn in the back of his treatment notebook after a session. He entitled it "Bad Hair Day".

With the help of Nurse Morian who works the "at risk" ward I sneaked this video from the "center". She told me that this is not covered under my HMO. I only have a few minutes left of blackberry batteries. I hope I can continue to communicate with the outside.

Happy Halloween from

The staff believes that if Mr. Johnson wishes to communicate with pictures he should be allowed. This we believe is a self portrait.

I bribed the night nurse to sneak me my BlackBerry. She hid it under the medications tray, thank goodness I get coverage down here. I don't know how long I will have batteries, so I will be quick.

I heard from the Smithsonian Institution before I "was sent" here to the "Center". The renovations on the Museum are complete and Bob will be on display at the Popular Culture gallery starting November 21, 2008. That is very exciting. Mr. Bowers also said they are publishing a book on the puppet in the Smithsonian collection and Bob will be featured in the "television puppets" section. That is very exciting. So if you happen to be in Washington after Nov. 21st stop by the "Music, Sports and Entertainment section of the renovated Smithsonian and say hello to Bob Campbell.

Opps. The floor guard just spotted me with my BB. More later. I will continue to sneak hand written letters.

Note From: Dr. Theodore Stethenmetz, Director
NEW BEGINNINGS REALITY CENTER

To whom it may concern:
Mr. Johnson will not be writing a blog for a few days as he is not allowed Internet access here at the "center". We are not sure how long he will stay with us, it is hard to gage his condition. With a person like Mr. Johnson who has made a living for so long as a functioning schizophrenic it is difficult to come to a concise diagnosis.

His physical health is good and he seems to interact well with the other patients. He has permission to roam the grounds and has taken to digging up dandelions. Unfortunately the dandelions are the prized garden of patient #7684 who has been traumatized by the event.

I will be keeping you posted on his progress, and if he shows advanced signs of improvement in his condition, we may allow him limited use of the computer.

Freudianly yours,
Dr. Theodore Stethenmetz
